The Challenge
When the founder approached us, the organization was operating under the name Development & Performance Strategies. While the name was accurate, it was utilitarian and lacked the soul and the vibrancy of the work actually being done. As an artist and a Black queer man navigating corporate America, the founder needed a brand that felt human and affirming. He needed a presence that could stand firm in sterile professional environments without being swallowed by them. The challenge was to create a brand that felt fresh and defiant, yet entirely at home in the rooms where decisions are made.
The Result
Breakthru evolved from a consulting firm into a beacon for creativity and presence. By stripping away the clinical labels and centering the brand on the power of the individual, we delivered:
- A Call to Action: A name that moved from a passive description to an active, aspirational command.
- A Duality in Design: Visuals that celebrate the strength found in vulnerability, pairing resilience with an unapologetic sense of culture.
- A Modern Authority: A brand presence that feels both established and transformative, giving the founder the tools to circumvent corporate coldness and connect directly with the human heart of his audience.
Breakthru now possesses the visual and verbal language to command respect in any setting, daring its audience to look past their limitations and step into what is possible.
Naming + Strategy
Our work began in the Brand Strategy + Identity Intensive, where we focused on bridging the gap between the founder’s personal history and his professional goals. We realized quickly that the original name was a barrier. It felt like a service provider, but we wanted it to feel like a movement. We landed on Breakthru, a clear and decisive name that speaks to overcoming and perseverance.


Defying the Corporate Mold
We designed the visual identity to reflect the complex reality of growth. We paired bold, heavy typography with thin, delicate lines as a visual metaphor for the resilience and softness required to navigate spaces that weren’t originally built for you. To counter corporate sterility, we introduced vibrant gradients and a color palette that evokes constant motion. The brand’s visuals had to capture the same energy as its new name and purpose.
